When the older versions of Naruto characters came out, I looked at the picture of Hinata and thought, "Hey, I know some guys who will really enjoy something like this." This became a Christmas present for an online friend.
I don't think older Hinata has appeared on the anime yet. I hope I guessed the color scheme.

I like portraying heroines in peril, but not at the brink of death. If those were explosive scrolls, I'd have Naruto in the background, a hair's breath away from rescuing her.
It's very important that the damsel be rescued, otherwise the whole piece changes tone.
I have to admit that i have no idea what the characters mean. I found some kanji in Adobe Illustrator and tried a few symbols. For all I know, the scrolls read "my name is soup" or some thing like that.
As for Hinata's actual color scheme, I'm going to chalk this up to a missed guess and keep working on newer images. I think that's better than constantly revising old works and feeling stagnated.

Oh, I couldn't agree more! As a writer, I'm faced with similar hurdles. The key is to create tension, not make the situation hopeless.

"My name is soup." Heh.

You wouldn't be the only who missed it: given that it was some months after her first reappearances (in Chapter 282 and on the cover of Chapter 297) that she appeared in color on a volume cover, the gray-and-black scheme was what pretty much everybody expected. It's all good!

I hadn't really considered explosive tags... that would be pretty dangerous.
Well, our Plucky and Beautiful Heroine™ is in Dire Peril™, after all, no doubt expecting her Naruto-kun to burst in at any moment and rescue her.
I figured they were probably chakra dampers of some kind, given Hinata's powers. Do the characters on them mean anything?
A nice piece of work you have here!
